Title: DILF
Author: [personal profile] twentysomething
Pairing: Derek/Stiles
Length: 31k
Summary: "Today is Scott's first day of kindergarten and Derek is terrified."

I promise not to inflict too many Teen Wolf recs on my admittedly small (but wonderful!) audience, but this one is too delightful not to share. I think it's easily readable even if you haven't seen TW, as it's an AU that reads more like a well-plotted gay romance novella than anything involving werewolves. Lovely slow build and lovely banter from one of my favorite authors; if you're looking for a lighthearted escape, this fits to the letter.

Title: took a faithful leap
Author: tosca1390
Pairing: Usagi/Mamoru
Length: 12k
Summary: In his relatively empty life, there are few moments and people that have stayed with him. She is one of them.

There are not a lot of current Sailor Moon writers who make me flail (there aren't really a lot of current Sailor Moon writers at all), but [personal profile] tosca1390 is a goldmine. I stayed up late last night reading all of her SM fic and it was not a wasted evening. This particular story is my first pick to rec for the absolutely fantastic characterization and for being an AU which is believable, delightful, and surprising.

The author takes the idea of Usagi as a politician and runs with it, with the senshi as Usagi's advisors and Mamoru as her doctor-turned-love interest and actually the story is written from Mamoru's point of view and it shines, it really gives him a round characterization that most stories lack, and the ordinary moments in their relationship kill me because we don't get to see nearly enough of those moments in the manga. *deep breath* In conclusion, this story is the best and [personal profile] tosca1390 is the best and I am thrilled to have found such a wonderful Usagi/Mamoru writer.

(P.S. There's a sequel!)

Title: The Ringmaster in a Blue Tux, and the Girl with Really Strong Toes
Author: [profile] humansrsuperior
Characters: Ten/Rose, Jack, Donna, ensemble
Length: 11,237 words
Summary: The day Rose Tyler joined the traveling circus with the big blue tent, she was first greeted by an elephant.

There's a sad lack of alternate universe (or "alternate reality," which I think is more accurate) fic in the Doctor/Rose world; I can understand why, but that lack makes stumbling across a piece like this all the more delightful. The two words that come to mind are "whimsical" and "charming" - there's very much a fairy-tale feel to the story - but at the same time the characters are so recognizably themselves that there's not the sense of distance, of disengagement, that one usually feels in fairy-tales.

Title: Five Times Dean Failed, and One Time He Didn't Do Too Badly
Author: [personal profile] scaramouche
Characters: Dean/Cas, ensemble
Length: 5000+ words
Summary: University AU. Dean isn't as cool as he thinks he is.

I'm always on the prowl for a good Dean/Cas AU, but the fandom tends to produce very few of them, and fewer still do more than a decent job of porting Castiel's character to a less fantastic world. Never fear! for [personal profile] scaramouche handles the AU with the same panache as she does canon. Fair warning, you may find yourself stifling giggles through your fist.

Title: pandora's mask
Author: [personal profile] montycrowley
Characters: Sheldon/Penny
Length: 3,904 words
Summary: penny is a spy and it all goes to hell.

I don't want to be totally repetitive and just rec everything [personal profile] montycrowley writes, but everything she writes is just so rec-able! (New word - get on it, dictionaries!) This is one of my favorite stories to come out of [community profile] sheldon_penny's first holiday swap, and I almost prefer it to the show (strike that, I do prefer it). The way pieces from the canon are fitted together with [personal profile] montycrowley's Penny-as-a-spy premise is nothing short of brilliant, and in the interim: scorching hot tie!porn.

Title: Hanging Work
Author: [personal profile] cereta
Characters: Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson, Selina Kyle
Length: 20k+
Summary: Two tickets to a circus never used, a little boy forgotten, and a chance meeting. Of such things are legends made.

Such a great premise for an AU - what if Selina, rather than Bruce, had taken the young Dick Grayson as a protege? - and it always leaves me craving more Dick&Selina interaction. Cereta is one of my favorite Batman authors, and this is probably my top pick of her stories; the characterization is fantastic, and Dick's evolution from a street kid to an adult seem so natural.

It's the relationship between Bruce and Dick that really makes me *flail* though, because it is just amazingly perfect, the way Bruce watches over Dick, the way Selina taunts Bruce with Dick's report cards, the way Bruce and Dick finally find themselves falling back into their proper roles...I would also seriously love some art of Dick's costume from the end of the story, just sayin'.

Title: Hooray for Our Side
Author: [personal profile] cereal
Pairing: Sheldon/Penny
Length: 8441 words
Summary: N/A

Does the BBT fandom ever rejoice more than when [personal profile] cereal posts a new story? This is my absolute favorite of her works, hands-down, and that is not an easy decision, but the way Sheldon & co. fit seamlessly into a universe just slightly off from canon is brilliant. MOVIE THEATER AU, okay, and the best Peny voice in the fandom, 'nuff said.
