Title: Haunted
Author: Ugly-Girl
Characters: Diana/Bruce
Length: 39k
Summary: When Batman won't save himself, Diana decides to take matters into her own hands.

So somehow in the past week I was bitten hard by the Wonder Woman bug, and now all I want to do is think about Diana and read about Diana and flail about Diana and stare at pictures of Diana. Since Bruce/Diana is basically the best ship in the DCU that doesn't involve Lois Lane, Batman gets dragged along on my Wonder Woman binge.

Fortunately, there are plenty of B/D stories set in the animated universe. This particular story is lengthy enough to satisfy; the plot leans heavily on the supernatural, which throws Bruce out of his comfort zone, but the story is really about the give and take between two hardheaded people who insist on saving one another. There were a couple of moments where Diana's characterization made me scratch my head, but her voice is so delightfully fresh that those moments were hardly worth noticing.

Title: Escape Artistry
Author: David Hines
Characters: Bruce/Diana
Length: 26,256 words
Summary: Wonder Woman is eager to learn new things. Batman, less so. Primarily JL animated continuity; some comic elements from as far back as the Golden Age.

This story is smart. The writing, the plotting, and the characterization are remarkably - I hate to say professional, but definitely polished. I have a difficult time finding Bruce/Diana fic I really enjoy, partly because there isn't a lot of it and partly because it often comes with a side of Clark/Diana, which is not so much my cup of tea. (That's actually less because of my crazy shipper tendencies and more because I enjoy Superman and Wonder Woman's platonic, comrades-in-arms dynamic; it seems like something both of them need.)

The very best aspect of this fic is that that it solves the problem of Diana losing her powers when she's bound by having Bruce teach her - like the title says - escape artistry. It's such a brilliant take, almost subversive, and I wonder that it hasn't been done before. (Has it? Maybe it has and I'm just not as up on WW continuity as I ought to be. One more thing for my list!) There is powerplay, but not what you'd expect in a story about Diana being tied up, and the ending broke me, as it will you.
